Spring has finally arrived and the buzz has begun about the upcoming North Carolina Fashion Association’s (NCFA) Style Week. Erica Arcilesi founder of the NCFA is dedicated to growing the culture and fashion presence here in the Carolinas. She is dedicated to the elevation of fashion and projects it through her amazing productions. Erica has given us a sneak peak on what we can expect from the shows this year!
What do you enjoy most about planning style week this year?
I greatly enjoy the buzz of excitement throughout the community. We have so many incredible international designers coming to showcase. Style Week is definitely an event that gets the Charlotte excited. The growth and awareness each season continues to surprise me and we could not do this without all of the wonderful support.
What can we expect from the shows this year?
For the fashion shows each night-You expect to see upcoming trends for the next season, out of the box designs and versatility. As a producer, I make sure to add in something for everyone. Whether you like edgy streetwear, chic work apparel or an over the top gown – we have it all.
Do you think your designers will be true to trend this year or will they be designing based on their personal inspiration and creativity?
Both, of course. Our show is based on finding unique designers with creative appeal, sometimes pushing the boundaries. However, it is important to us to showcase what to expect for the season ahead, in order to allow fashion in Charlotte to thrive.
Which night of style week is your favorite and why?
That’s a tough one. I really enjoy the first night. We have created a special community tradition with The Art Institute of Charlotte (students). We invite the students to showcase their pieces in a collection, after they have competed for a spot in Style Week. It is fun to see fresh talent and what they have to bring to the runway.
The last night, our finale night is very exciting also. It is our busiest night, full of vips and lots of press. Everyone wants to see our finale designer close out Style Week. This season we have NYC’s Irina Shabayeva of Project Runway. Her gorgeous gowns will not disappoint!
For people who are excited about this year’s shows what are you anticipating seeing on the runway?
Anyone that chooses to attend Style Week, our hope is to give them a taste of what New York Fashion Week is like, with a twist. -A high end production with revolutionary fashion.
What is your vision for the future of style week Charlotte?
The vision of style week is growth. To continue to revolutionize the way NC sees fashion by bringing in fresh multi-cultural designers, to advance the business of fashion and to immerse the community in this new platform.
Style Week is Wednesday March 25th-Saturday March-28th.
