Music: Top Five Christmas Songs

The holidays are here and what better way to celebrate than with holiday music! This time of year means work places, malls, and restaurants play an abundance of seasonal favorites, and I’m a huge fan! Below are my top five Christmas songs. I have been jamming out to these at work over the past few weeks. What are your holiday favorites?

‘Santa Baby’ – Eartha Kitt

Released in 1953, ‘Santa Baby’ was a provocative song for its time. The song is seductively sung by Eartha Kitt and is a Christmas list of extravagant gifts such as sables, yachts, and decorations from Tiffany’s!

‘Please Come Home for Christmas’ – The Eagles

‘Please Come Home for Christmas’ also known as ‘Bells will be Ringing,’ is a classic Christmas song, released in 1960, by blues singer Charles Brown. The Eagles’ version of this holiday favorite was recorded in 1978 and peaked at #18 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.

‘I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Clause’ – The Jackson Five

What top five song count down wouldn’t include a Michael Jackson track, right? The Jackson Five created a Christmas Album and ‘I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Clause’ became an instant hit. An American classic, the music and lyrics of this holiday hit are by Tommie Connor.

‘This Christmas’ – Chris Brown

Chris Brown is one of numerous artists to cover this iconic Christmas song, originally recorded in 1971 by Donny Hathaway. Ironically, Chris Brown starred in a 2007 hit film called ‘This Christmas’ and his version of the song is on the soundtrack.

‘The Little Drummer Boy’ – Harry Simeone Chorale

Written by classical music composer Katherine Kennicott Davis in 1941, ‘The Little Drummer Boy’ became popular because of the 1958 recording by Harry Simeone Chorale. ‘The Little Dummer Boy’ is beautifully composed and recognized all over the world.
