Growing up in the south comes with an undeniable set of unspoken rules and traditions, however, two Carolina based, self proclaimed “bestie-preneurs”are shaking things up with their natural hair focused pageant. Founded in December 2013 in Columbia, South Carolina, Jessica Boyd and Maureen Ochola wanted a way to encourage women in their journey to self love through pageantry and scholarship.

In addition to celebrating the southern sentiment, “the higher the hair the closer to heaven,” contestants are awarded scholarship money and entrepreneurial coaching all while cultivating lasting bonds with other like minded young women.

Since spreading through out the Carolinas; the organization has just named it’s first Miss Naturally Crowned Charleston on June 24th 2016. Paige Green, is a social worker by day and baker by night who intends to use the $1,000 scholarship money to invest into her very own sweet treats business.
