DIY Holiday Gifts: Stylish Scented Sachets

This holiday season try giving, or better yet creating, a gift that will be appealing to both scent and sight.  Below is a quick guide for putting together a simple, inexpensive, and functional gift for a loved one.

Step 1. Gather your materials:

You’ll want to work with 4” fabric squares.  Grab a unique patterned cloth for the front and a more basic, canvas like material for the back.  While you’re at the textile store be sure to pick up some heavy-duty hand quilting thread in a color that best suits your patterned fabric.

Step 2. Select a scent:

Choose a fragrant spice or herb that’s not too overpowering, but one that will linger for quite sometime.  A generally accepted aroma for both men and women is Lavender.

Step 3. Create your Sachet:

– Looking at the unprinted side of one 4” fabric square, fold the edges at ¼”, towards the printed exterior.

– Place your canvas fabric on top and pin each side together, leaving an open for filling.

– Sew together 3 of the 4 sides and then turn pouch right side out.

– Fill the pouch with about 10 tablespoons of chosen scent; pin and sew the opening.
