Friday, July 15 will be one of the best nights for Charlotte musician Jason Jet. He will be debuting the official music video for his new single, “Up All Nite” in addition to release of his full EP, “The Great Escape” . But who is Jason Jet?

Jet describes himself as an electro soul artist who makes music to accommodate all kinds of people so that they can enjoy.

I am a humanitarian I like to cultivate creativity in other people.  I also host seminars and work shops and a vocal boot camp I like to work with and develop artist by influencing their mindset.”

Jet is more than just a singer, he is also an accomplished songwriter, producer, vocal coach and plays the following instruments: piano, drums, guitar. His four piece band consists of his brother, Jeremy Jones (whom they call Yo Major) on guitar, on bass Jeremy Maher, on keyboard Tony Witherspoon and on drums Paco, who he describes as awesome guys.

Jet came in contact with performing early in life, getting his start in the church. “My dad was a minister. I got on drums for the first time at six and that was my first experience with music.

Jet said he wrote his new EP, “Up all Nite” last summer, which is reminiscent of the first song he wrote.

In 2009 I wrote my first song, ‘Love Boulevard’ which is basically a two-step July 4th summer time vibe. I haven’t made a song like this in a while. ‘Love Boulevard’ was the inspiration behind “Up all Nite.

Jet has performed twice in  New York City at The Apollo Theater, the Hard Rock Café in Orlando Florida, and various venues in Charlotte. He has also opened up for Anthony Hamilton, Joss Stone, Eric Robertson and Dwele.

Charlotte is very interesting. It’s home [for me] but you have to go outside of this market to really grow and make it.  [Charlotte] is becoming more of an entertainment scene but it will take a few years to grow.”

Within recent years Jet has received both a Carolina Music Award and a NY Urban Music Award for his contributions to the music scene.

An interesting fact about Jet is that he is a native of Iceland ; his father was stationed in Iceland while in the Navy.

My dad was in the Navy and he served for several years. When my parents were in their 20s my mom decided to move with him to Iceland and I was born on my mom’s birthday July 15. I plan to visit Iceland next summer,” Jet said.

As for his future plans, Jet said five years from now he would like to be touring the world and working with artists of his choice including Pharrell Williams, Kanye West (to see his thought process), Janelle Monàe and neo-soul band The Internet. He also wants to create a community-based music program.

One dream that I have [is to build] a multi-purpose facility like YMCA but geared toward a music leadership program where artist and musicians can come and develop their time, gift and craft and just be great,” he said.

Jet says his long term music career goals are to influence change within the arts and the perception of it within the black community.

Everything we see and hear on TV and Radio has subliminal messages and energy that is not good for humanity, I want to be a change agent and show that people have a mission and have value in the industry,” he said.

This year, Jet turns 30 and will premiere the music video for “Up All Nite” at his home, one day after “Great Escape” his full EP drops on Spotify, Tidal, Pandora, iHeartRadio and iTunes. The video premiere event is open to the public.

My name is Shakora Bamberg and I am a print journalism major, theater minor graduating August 2016 from Winthrop University. My favorite food is lasagna and supreme pizza, and my favorite ice cream is cookie n’ cream. I enjoy singing, writing, drawing, painting, writing songs and poetry, cooking, reading, meeting and interviewing different people, shopping, traveling, taking pictures with my Fujifilm camera, watching A Different World, My Wife and Kids, Good Times, the Miss America Pageants, Jane the Virgin, Jamie Foxx Show, Martin, King of Queens and The Fresh-Prince of Bel-Air and binge watching a variety of shows and movies on Netflix. My favorite clothing stores are: River Island, Penny’s, Forever 21, H&M, Charlotte Russe and New York & Co. My favorite handbag brands are: Celine, Dooney & Bourke and Chanel. Six years ago I was a member of Palmetto Girls State where I learned a lot about our SC government, now I am a SC Notary. A fun fact about myself is that I lived very briefly in Harlem, New York with my family when I was little and we would visit historic places like the Apollo Theater and tourist attractions like Midtown Manhattan and Time Square. Another fun fact about me is that I studied abroad spring 2015 in Dublin, Ireland and also interned with Metro Eireann newspaper under the leadership of Editor Mr. Chinedu. While there I immersed myself in the culture, tried different cafés and restaurants like Noshington Café, Grace’s Famous Fried Chicken, Ambala (Pakistan) Indian restaurant and Krust Bakery, and made some amazing friends. I really miss Ireland and can’t wait to visit my second home. Some of the places I visited during my semester abroad were: Belfast, United Kingdom, Cliffs of Moher, Phoenix Park, Dublin Castle, Abbey Theater, Howth Cliffs, Aran Islands, Inis Mor, Giant’s Causeway, St Stephens Green, Iveagh Gardens, I also attended the Saint Patrick’s Day parade which was so much fun with my roommates. I tried Gelato, sushi, and fried ice cream for the first time in Ireland. I also had to get adjusted to the time difference as Dublin is 5 hours ahead of US. My long term goal is to land a traveling career within my field, writing/ reporting or broadcasting either with the Today Show or Good Morning America, writing for Essence Magazine, Huffington Post, or Washington Post and to obtain my MBA and start my own event-planning (most specifically a Christian wedding planning business), photography business, and a non-profit (to help young boys and girls in an effort to mentor and prepare them for high school college and career opportunities so that we reduce the number of incarcerations and violence that our young generation may face). I also want to write a child book series, and write a play or television show that would possibly get aired (creating my own production company would be nice but I don’t want to speak to soon) My plan B would be to pursue a career in the entertainment industry singing and acting. Some places that I would love to visit in my lifetime are: Hawaii, New Orleans, Puerto Rico, Boston Mass, Niagra Falls, Mexico, Canada, Paris, France, Switzerland, Thailand, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Scotland and Budapest. I love my family and friends and church family very dearly and cooking too. I also love the Carolina Panthers and Kevin Durant and reading novels written by authors Terry McMillan and J.K. Rowling. My favorite singers are: Judith Hill, Norah Jones, Tessanne Chin, Carrie Underwood, Alicia Keys, Kelly Rowland, Monica, Chrisette Michele, Elle Varner, Mary J. Blige, Tasha Cobbs Tamela Mann, Solange, Cynthia Erivo, Celine Dion, Maxwell, Neyo, and Michael Jackson, Beyonce and Katy Perry would be my favorite entertainers. My favorite animals are: golden retriever and pit bulls, giraffes, white tigers, koala and panda bears. My favorite news reporters are: Tamron Hall, Lester Holt, Ann Curry, Katie Couric Robin Roberts, and Dan Rather and SC based Judi Gatson and Darci Strickland. A long term goal that I have is to move to Arlington or Richmond Virginia or LA, Athens, GA, Tennessee, or New York City to start my career and seek the best opportunities possible. I hope that you enjoy my published work as I truly appreciate the opportunity to write and intern for Carolina Style Mag it is such a fun, snazzy, magazine.
