Community Events: The Arts Council of York County’s Prohibition Party
Gents, don your favorite bow tie and cufflinks. Ladies, get all dolled up in your feathers and pearls. It’s time to step back into the Roaring 20s. The Arts Council of York County is hosting a Prohibition Party in high style on Saturday May 21, 2016, at the Courtroom at the Gettys Art Center, 201 E. Main St., Rock Hill, SC, at 7:30 PM, where we will be sampling the finest bourbon, scotch, wine, and moonshine.
The parties were bigger, the morals were looser, & the liquor was cheaper.-The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald
Cross the threshold from the 21st Century to the 1920s. With the opulence of the Courtroom’s fine wood paneling and chandeliers of the Gettys Courtroom, you’ll need to dress to impress. The L. H. Dickert Jazz Guitar Duo will have you tappin’ your toes, wishing there was room enough to foxtrot and lindy hop. You may need a password to get in, but you won’t be drinking bathtub gin. No siree. O’Darby’s Fine Wine & Spirits will have only the finest scotch, wine and moonshine vendors on site. O’Darby’s has donated, for live auction, a bottle of Old Rip Van Winkle 10yr Bourbon by Pappy Van Winkle to benefit the Arts Council of York County. By the end of the evening, you’ll be able to differentiate between single barrel whiskeys and unwheated bourbons, and you’ll know if your wine is an aromatic that was aged in an oaken barrel or a steel barrel.
Speak-easy and bring your password!
