The UNC Charlotte Alumni Association recently announced plans to host their third annual Green Tie Gala “Speakeasy” on Friday, April 8, 2016 from 7:30 pm to 11:30 pm, at the Omni Hotel in Uptown Charlotte.
The 1920s/1930s-inspired theme will be a night to raise money towards UNC Charlotte student scholarships and provide UNC Charlotte alumni and friends with an entertaining evening.
“The Green Tie Gala is a first-class event that allows alumni and friends of the university to party with a purpose. Proceeds from the event help fund the Dr. Gregory Davis needs-based scholarship, which was established by the Alumni Board of Directors to recognize his many years of service to the university. The Green Tie Gala “Speakeasy” should be one of the highlights of the inaugural AlumNiner Weekend 2016,” says Terrell Blackmon, ’89, Black Alumni Chapter President.
This year’s gala will include: live music and entertainment, dancing, an auction, food and beverages, a mystery box fundraiser, and much more!
“The Green Tie Gala has quickly become a fun, signature event by which UNC Charlotte alums can reconnect and enjoy fantastic food and music while serving the worthwhile purpose of funding the Gregory Davis needs-based Scholarship,” says Donnie Koonce, Chair of the Green Tie Gala Coordinating Committee.
The Dr. Gregory Davis Needs-Based Scholarship Fund was established in 2008 in honor of a UNC Charlotte alumnus and retired lecturer, who felt that more students could be honor students if they did not have to reduce their study time by having to work. This year, a portion of the funds raised will also go toward a textbook scholarship fund for transfer students.
The gala is open to the public, regardless of UNC Charlotte affiliation. Early-bird registration is $55/person for regular adult attendees. The first 25 current UNC Charlotte students receive a discounted rate of $25/person, after which it will be $40/person. Prices go up to $70/person on March 25, and online registration ends April 1. Donations will be accepted for those who cannot attend the gala.
