Girl Scouts Hornets' Nest Council with Cathy Bessant

Girl Scouts Hornets’ Nest Council Announces Lifetime Achievement Honoree

On Sept. 9, the Girl Scouts Hornets’ Nest Council will recognize Bank of America Chief Operations & Technology Officer Cathy Bessant with one of its highest honors – a Lifetime Achievement Award – at the 10th annual Women of Distinction luncheon.

Exemplifying the Girl Scout mission of courage, confidence and character, the council will celebrate Bessant for being a role model for girls, showing them how to achieve their dreams; leading the way in achieving balance in family, work and community involvement; and making the world a better place through advocacy, leadership and personal and professional contributions.

After a thorough review of women leaders in the Charlotte community, we decided unanimously that Cathy Bessant epitomizes the leadership skills of the Girl Scouts and reflects our mission in everything she does,” said Angela Woods, chief executive officer of the Hornets’ Nest Council. “We are honored to recognize such a leader at the 10th annual Women of Distinction luncheon.”

Bessant, who grew up as a Girl Scout in Jackson, Michigan, joins an elite group of community leaders who have received the Lifetime Achievement Award, including the late Ruth Easterling (2006), Sarah Belk Gambrell (2007), the late Elisabeth ‘‘Liz’’ Hair (2008), Susan Patterson (2009), Betty Chafin Rash (2010), Pat Rodgers (2011), Peggy Culbertson (2012), Patty Norman (2013) and Mary Lou Babb (2014).

Since the inaugural event in 2006, Girl Scouts Hornets’ Nest Council has honored nearly 60 exemplary women with a passion for science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), environmental leadership, healthy living and community building.

The luncheon will take place Wednesday, September 9 from noon to 1:30 p.m. ET at the Westin Charlotte.
