Get ready to pop, lock and drop. National Dance Day is Saturday, July 25.
Launched in 2010 by “So You Think You Can Dance” co-creator and Dizzy Feet Foundation co-president Nigel Lythgoe, National Dance Day is an annual celebration that takes place on the last Saturday in July. This grassroots campaign encourages Americans to embrace dance as a fun and positive way to maintain good health and fight obesity.
Blumenthal Performing Arts will join hundreds of other organizations across the country in hosting an array of participatory dance activities. This free event is open to people of all ages and no prior dance experience is necessary for participation!
Each year Dizzy Feet Foundation creates instructional dance videos for people to learn and perform dance routines and share them with others as part of National Dance Day. Created by favorite “So You Think You Can Dance” choreographers and featuring “So You Think You Can Dance” Alumni, the videos represent a range of dance abilities ensuring everyone can take part.
This years track is “Shut Up and Dance” by Walk the Moon. Check the iTunes link below next to the NDD routines to download your copy.
Lisa Wright of The Dance District and one of the Carolinas 75 Most Stylish is the featured dance instructor for the Blumenthal’s program, teaching attendees the official National Dance Day routine choreographed by “So You Think You Can Dance” alumni Twitch. Other local acts are scheduled to perform at Blumenthal’s event on Saturday including a performance by The Dance District.
