We all grew up flipping through the pages of fashion magazines, especially ones like Teen Vogue. I can remember it coming in the mail each month and being so excited to see all of the new outfits and inspiration I would find from the new issue. So, when College of Charleston student and Phi-Mu sorority member, Christine Pearson, approached me to speak alongside fashion bloggers and boutique owners at the Teen Vogue Back to School Saturdays, I was ecstatic!
I was so honored to have the opportunity to speak at a Teen Vogue event and especially to share my experience in the fashion world thus far. In addition to writing for STYLE, I am also a fashion design student and have already started my own clothing line, Corinne and Molly, which I produce and design out of my home.
The event was held in a ballroom at the Stern Center, on the beautiful CofC campus, with a fabulous view of historic Charleston. The audience was full of sorority girls and college fashionistas, excited to spend the afternoon talking all things stylish! In addition to the Teen Vogue giveaways and a photo booth (we may have had too much fun with that), there were also tables set up by local vendors, Dandy Boutique and Pink Dot Beauty Bar. This allowed the girls to shop, play and speak one on one with the local business owners.
Holly McGetrick, owner of Dandy, spoke to the audience about her ADORABLE shop, which specializes in vintage inspired clothing, accessories and home decor. She also shared a bit of how owning her own boutique started as a dream and turned into reality! Meghan Walker, owner of Pink Dot, spoke about her beauty bar, which is unlike any other cosmetics store in Charleston! She also shared with the girls about her new venture at Pink Dot, The Hive, which is the brand new full service beauty salon above the shop. Talk about the cutest salon you’ve ever seen! Both of these local women in business are truly an inspiration!
The event also hosted a panel of local fashion bloggers: Brittany Lapin of Southern Meets Chic (and also our Charleston Market Editor), Tara Langdale of Northern Lights-Southern Belles, Chloe Fusselman of TopKnots and PolkaDots and Taylor Brobisky of Holy City in Heels. After individually telling everyone about their fab blogs, the took questions from the audience. This lead the ladies to talk about topics ranging from how to get started blogging and finding your personal style to fall trends and must have pieces.
Afterwards, the attendees had the opportunity to mingle and chat with the guest speakers on a more personal level. It was so wonderful getting to meet the CofC girls and hear all of their fashion questions and concerns. It is great to know that we have some major fashion events happening right here in our charming Holy City of Charleston and I am thrilled to have been a part of this one!
