Going Carolina Coastal

Going Carolina Coastal

Need a break from the hustle and bustle of city life? Consider visiting the Carolina Coast. Complete with warm rays, peaceful atmosphere, and surf, there is no place like the Coast…or its STYLE.

Growing up in the Friendly City by the Sea had all the perks of small town charm. There was one grocery store, one drugstore, and the best diner in the entire world: Yana’s. (I suggest the fritters – you won’t be disappointed!) Swansboro has since changed and become  a hidden gem with all the perks of beach vacationing – without the overload of tourists or the high costs. If you are craving sand beneath your toes but want a more intimate experience, this is the place to go.

The nearest shopping mall is approximately 20 minutes away, but there are quite a few local shops carrying unique fashion, jewelry, and home decor. Stop at Russell’s Old Tyme Shoppe to find local jams, jellies, jewelry, gifts, and the prettiest hand-painted items. Max Russell has a signature rosette that you will not find anywhere else.

If you are looking for classic beach STYLE, you will find it at Vagabond and at The Mercantile.  Experience charter fishing, boating, water sports, Hammocks Beach State Park, picnics on the dock, lunch by the water, and night life at the local Yacht Club.  If you are lucky to be visiting mid-June, enjoy the Arts By the Sea Festival with live music, food, crafts, and creative minds from all over.

While there are a few comfy options for lodging, I recommend the Church Street Inn. With a phenomenal Irish pub & deli, it is within walking distance to all of the shops, affording you unbeatable convenience. The rooms have the charm of a B&B with true coastal STYLE.

If you long for a more expansive area of sand, you are right next door to Emerald Isle.

With a short 15 minute drive you could hop over the bridge and spend your days soaking up sun and surf on Emerald Isle’s beaches. Got time? You can reach Atlantic Beach or Fort Macon in under an hour by simply driving the coast. There you will find more fine dining, high-end shopping, and more tourist attractions to choose from.

Step out of the tanning bed this summer and enjoy the bare all, carefree kind of style at the Carolina Coast. There is nothing more stylish than a natural glow from a summer of fun!
