Owner Randi Blakeney shares her personal style with us and dishes on pushing the creative envelope:
What do you love most about designing and creating your own jewelry?
I love the fact that it is a positive outlet that yields a beautiful piece of jewelry in the process. I love the instant gratification, where I don’t have to wait to see the final product. When I get a bright idea in my mind, I can come to my design room, get the materials together and make it happen. Also, hearing from my customers and seeing their faces after they have received a plethora of compliments on their custom piece is priceless.
How long does it take to complete a piece?
It’s based on the type and size of the custom piece and the materials. If I am using tiny beads, it could take 3-4 hours. If I am coupling a vintage brooch with other beads, it could take as little as 30 minutes.
What are some of your favorite materials to use when creating?
I am drawn to vintage pieces. I find myself in thrift stores searching for vintage brooches that I can take apart and recreate a custom piece.
What made you decide to start your own business making custom jewelry?
I have always had a creative eye. In high school I was the hair go-to-person creating all the big hair styles like French rolls, buns, finger waves and up do’s. In college I was the go-to nail technician which landed me a job in a nail salon. A few years later, I was watching a late night jewelry show and started crafting my own pieces. As I started wearing the pieces out, people started asking me to make pieces for them and it grew from there.
If you could sum up your designs in three words, what would they be and why?
Creative, because they are one-of-a-kind; unique because they are exclusive; and bold, because I make statement pieces that can stand alone.
What do you think are the current jewelry fashion trends for Spring 2014?
The current jewelry trends for me are bold, strong, vibrant colors that will compliment whatever colors are relevant.
How would you describe your personal style?
My personal style is creative, bright, bold, unique and the vision behind my custom jewelry.
Some brands use a portion of the proceeds to benefit a philanthropic cause. Is this something your brand does as well?
We are passionate about serving our community. We partner with non-profit organizations by donating a portion of the proceeds from our events and jewelry shows. We donate proceeds to Pat’s Place which is geared toward supporting sexually abused children. Also, we donate proceeds to the Greater Enrichment Program which is geared to supporting kids that are economically challenged with after school programs.
