Angel Cherry is proof that following your passion pays off. Charlotte native and East Mecklenburg graduate moved to New York in 2007 after attending the Art Institute of Charlotte. A Fashion Marketing major, she decided to purse her emerging talent of make up artistry. Now six years later, she launched her own lip color line, VOID by Angel Cherry, a name she chose to represent how the collection fills a gap in the beauty industry.
“Brands didn’t offer the type of color my clients wanted”, says Angel. “So I ended up blending my own colors.”
After wearing one of the colors during a night out on the town her friend noticed everyone staring and stopping to ask Angel where she purchased her lipstick. She advised Angel to make it and sell it.
“I would spend time making colors and selling them on my social media pages and people would buy them. I made $600 my first week selling through e-mail and Instagram.”
VOID’s collection of colors is highly pigmented, moisturizing, long-lasting, cruelty-free and made to order. The first collection of available shades (Alter Ego, Barbie, Cash, Lust, Nude, Trendsetter and Vamp Plum) sold out online in just a few short weeks.
“My colors give off personality. They represent me. I wanted to make a line that would be totally authentic. I’m not afraid to be bold and try things,” says Angel.
Beauty enthusiasts, style connoisseurs and taste makers from all over New York City came to celebrate the VOID by Angel Cherry launch on July 25 hosted by New York entertainment insider and socialite Legendary Damon. Notable guests in attendance included fashion maven and television personality Angela Simmons, Hip Hop Icon Ed “Special Ed” Archer, Chef Roble (celebrity chef and star of Bravo’s “Chef Roble and Co”), high fashion model Ray’uana Aleyce (currently on Project Runway Season 12), Model Victoria Virgo (Miss New Jersey USA 2013 Contestant) and Audra The Rapper.
In addition to launching a collection of lip colors, she is also known for her work with Brooke and Christiana Shields, Vogue Japan, Ebony Magazine, The NFL Network, People Magazine, and actress/model Vanessa Simmons–just to name a few.
