Spring has finally sprung and summer is right around the corner! The cold weather and elements can make staying fit and keeping your summer physique especially challenging during the winter months. As we begin to shed layers and prep ourselves for the beach, easing out of winter habits can prove to be challenging. Many of us would prefer to curl up at home and may find it difficult to motivate after a long day of work, but working out is anything but bland these days with the increase of unique ways to stay in shape.

One of the newest sensations is the influence of the circus arts with activities such as aerial silks, trapeze, and acrobatics, combined with a twist on the more conventional yoga, pilates, and zumba exercises.

Cirque de Vol Studios in Downtown Raleigh is one of the first local places to offer these and other classes, with the hopes of inspiring personal fitness for the whole body, mind and spirit. The studio’s motto is to “inspire healing and growth in our community through art, dance, and creative movement that strengthens the mind-body connection.”

The different classes offer an exciting form of physical and mental training that combine therapeutic principles with the skill and dexterity of circus arts. The belief is that training strong bodies and minds is most successful through a combination of fitness, focus and fun. The programs offer the opportunity toΒ learn a new skill,Β regain focus and try an exciting new workout.

Cirque de Vol Studios also offers kids circus classes, camps, and even the possibility to host a unique birthday party. CircusΒ arts build confidence, encourage creative self expression, teach responsibility, poise, teamwork, and self-discipline.Β Participants have the chance to master the basics of a variety of circus skill sets, including (but not limited to) aerial acrobatics, rolla bolla, clowning, miming, makeup, costuming, theatre, tumbling, dancing, juggling, and much more.

More than ever before, fitness experts are highlighting the importance of mental-clarity and empowerment of the soul through physical activity. Keeping your routine unique and lighthearted can positively impact even the most stubborn of lazy day tendencies.
