Clay Aiken (Season 2 of American Idol) will return to the North Carolina Theatre’s stage in their production of The Drowsy Chaperone. Joining Mr. Aiken on the stage is another Raleigh-native, Beth Leavel, also returning to the NCT stage following the 2012 production of Steel Magnolias. Directed by NC Theatre’s very own Artistic Director Casey Hushion, The Drowsy Chaperone tells the tale of a pampered Broadway starlet who wants to give up show business to get married. Model Envy will serve as the first installment of The Social Workshop Series and provides an outlet for models and women in the fashion industry to take a break from the runway to get tips and instruction on further developing their modeling skills and careers. Runway expert and lifestyle coach Nina Nesbitt will speak to guests about beauty, confidence building, health, and fitness as well as how to put your best foot forward on the runway and in everday life. This is a power packed opportunity for models to attain personal and professional guidance from a veteran in the industry of fashion and runway. The national trainer for Motives Cosmetics and makeup guru Laura Laire will also speak with the models about healthy skin care rituals and how to achieve a flawless look on your own. Comic book fans are in for a treat with the largest comic, gaming, sci-fi, horror and pop culture convention to ever hit Southeastern North Carolina. Port City Pop Con is a convergence of all things Con related – from video games to movies and animation wth celebrity guests like Michael Biehn (“Aliens”) and Ernie Hudson (“The Crow,” “Ghostbusters”), to name a few. As part of the event, Memory Lane Comics will be celebrating its 30th anniversary in business. The Cape Fear Independent Film Festival will be involved, and there will be celebrity musical performances, costume contests, video game tournaments and more.

The world premiere for the new science fiction, disaster-genre feature film, The Carrington Event, will take place at the Cape Fear Independent Film Festival.
