The Socialite: This Week’s Stylish Events

RALEIGH

The Tanzania Project, Artist Reception 

Date: Saturday, February 23rd

Time: 2:00 – 4:00 PM

Location: Seby Jones Art Gallery, St Augustine’s University

The Tanzania Project is a photography exhibition by Georges Le Chevallier and will showcase a series of 45 photographs by this multitalented artist. In July 2011, Le Chevallier was named as one of only four recipients nationwide of a Travelocity Travel for Good Grant to journey to Tanzania to volunteer on education, health, and social services initiatives in the community. Le Chevallier traveled with the international not-for-profit organization Cross Cultural Solutions to a small village in the Kilimanjaro region and to the city of Bagamoyo on the Indian Ocean coast, amongst many other locations. At all times throughout his trip, Georges Le Chevallier documented his Tanzania journey with the photographs now shown for the first time in this exhibition.

February for The Art of Style has been all about sharing the local love…and in this case, the local love with three artists from the Roundabout Art Collective: Susan Woodson, Meredith Kittrell, and Susan Dahlin. Join The Art of Style team at their Cameron Village location as they showcase one of downtown Raleigh’s newest art explorations, the Roundabout Art Collective, and their newest collection, “Call Me Sassy”. Check out some fun, quirky, and stylishly sassy artwork from the trio while sipping wine and enjoying live music from local musician, Kenneth Miles.

DURHAM

Bull City Food and Beer Experience

Date: Sunday, February 24th

Time: 4:00 – 8:00 PM

Location: DPAC – Durham Performing Arts Center

Stimulate and educate your palate and mind through local food, unbelievable beer while helping to raise money for the Ellerbe Creek Watershed Association. Admission includes: unlimited food sampling from 20 of Durham’s finest restaurants as well as beer tastings from over 50 breweries, and a souvenir glass and tasting notebook. The keynote speakers are Ken Grossman (Sierra Nevada), Kim Jordan (New Belgium), and Dale Katechis (Oskar Blues) There will also be live music from Mipso, an awesome bluegrass inspired band. Tickets are $75 – $125.
