What to Wear: Four for Fall

There is nothing shy about the trends for Fall 2012. From lavish fabrics to bold colors and luxurious embellishments the Fall 2012 runways were nothing short of grand! This Autumn, try incorporating elements from the catwalk to keep your day/office look stylish yet modest.

Below: Yin Yang. Black and white dominated ESCADA’s Fall/Winter collection; their two-toned designs were a huge hit. Often considered fashion suicide, wearing black (or white) head to toe is about to become completely acceptable and popular. If bold and clashing isn’t your thing, you can subtly incorporate the trend into your personal STYLE with a pair of two-tone shoes, or a clutch.

Below: The Return of Retro. Over in Milan, PRADA took us back to flares, platforms, and 70s inspired prints. Purples and oranges dominated the collection; models in geometric and reoccurring patterns dominated the catwalk. Feel free to incorporate items such as the platform shoes below in [Pantone’s color of the year Tangerine Tango,] or a flared dress.

Below: Baroque. Italian designers Dolce & Gabbana paid respects to their motherland with a collection that took us back to Rome (1600s STYLE.) Tapestry and gold embroidery detailed luxurious satins and velvets. If the grandeur of this look is too much for you, try adding a pair of baroque-inspired sunglasses to your every day look. For those who enjoy an exuberant style, a tapestry inspired blazer over a pair of jeans is a great look for a night out on the town.

Below: Space Cadet. Badgley Mischka brings new meaning to high-voltage. Metallics were the front runner of this runway collection – from bronzed tweeds to shimmering sequins (and gold and silver embellishments.) The German duo presented a more futuristic interpretation of decorative dated patterns. For a more modest incorporation of the trend, try adding a pair of lamé sneakers or a coat of metallic nail polish. For a bolder look, a metallic knit sweater is a versatile piece that can take you from day to night.
